A bridge inspector bought this for exactly what it is designed to do, measuring underclearance without a pole or crawling on the ground, and reports it does that job well. He also found that outdoors, even in shade, the laser is unreadable beyond about thirty feet. Both of those tell you something useful.

At 4.6 across 260 ratings this is rated higher than its own replacement, and the reason is the workflow: hold it anywhere in a room and get length and width without clearing a path to a wall. Buy it for interiors and ignore the 393 ft entirely.

One review, which eight other buyers found helpful, comes from someone who inspects bridges for a living. It is the most useful outdoor assessment we have found on any dual laser unit, because he bought it for a specific professional reason and reports on both halves honestly.
He was excited about the dual direction function because it lets him measure underclearance without putting the tool on a pole or crawling around on the ground. His verdict on that: it does do a good job.
Then the problem. Outdoors, even in the shade, he could not see or read the laser beyond about twenty five to thirty feet. Against an advertised 120 m, he put it plainly: you will not get ten per cent of that outside.
His closing observation is the one that matters most, and it is the argument our whole outdoor guide is built on. Because the unit has no camera, being able to see the laser is crucial. Without that, it is basically worthless outdoors.
Two separate things fail outdoors: the sensor's ability to read the return, and your ability to see where the dot landed. The second fails first, and no amount of extra rated range helps with it. What helps is a camera viewfinder that shows you a magnified image with a crosshair, so you stop needing to see the dot at all. Being able to hold the device anywhere within the space and get an accurate distance is described as a gamechanger, because you do not have to clear a path to a wall. Line of sight is all you need. In a cluttered space they can hold it up near the ceiling and get length and width in seconds.
That is a real problem solved. Anyone who has tried to measure a full room in a house that is still furnished, or a storage space, or a loft with boxes in it, knows that getting a tape or even a single beam laser to a clean wall to wall run is often the hard part.
The same owner notes two practical touches. Measuring to an outside corner is made simple by holding a small piece of wood, or a hand at a pinch, as a target. And the mode can be changed to measure in one direction, from either the front or the rear of the unit, which is the reference point control we recommend looking for on any tool.
They also mention five triangle measurement modes, which is notable because a CD-60R owner reported the calculation functions not working on their unit.
One owner bought it to measure studs on a quonset hut arch, where each stud would be a different length, and reasoned correctly that this was the right kind of tool for the job.
It did not work. The laser could not read the curved galvanised metal and they got significantly different measurements each time.
That is worth understanding rather than treating as a fault. Curved surfaces scatter the beam away from the sensor rather than back to it, and galvanised metal is both bright and irregular. Between them, there is very little coherent signal returning. Any laser measure would struggle, and the fix is to give the beam something flat and matte to land on, such as a card held against the surface.
CIGMAN sells both, and on paper the newer R is the better tool: plus or minus 1/16 in against 1/8 in, so twice as tight.
Owners disagree with the paper. This older unit holds 4.6 across 260 ratings, and the CD-60R holds 4.4 across 392. That is not a large gap and review counts differ, but it does mean the upgrade has not obviously improved owner satisfaction.
Our reading is that for the job these are actually bought for, measuring rooms in cluttered spaces, an eighth of an inch is fine and other things matter more. If your work needs a sixteenth, the CD-60R is reviewed here, including the owner audit of its calculation modes.

If you want a tighter tolerance on the same design. The CIGMAN CD-60R claims a sixteenth of an inch, though owners rate it slightly lower.
If you want the dual laser with better documentation. The Huepar dual unit publishes its one way and two way tolerances separately, which almost nobody in this category does.
If you mainly measure ordinary empty rooms. A single beam unit is simpler and cheaper. The budget guide covers them.
Whatever you buy, check it against a known length, and on a dual laser check both modes, since they carry different tolerances.
