Most tools we reject have one measuring system that is wrong. This one has two. Owners report distance readings varying by up to half an inch, and one who checked the angle sensor against a speed square found the angles off by several degrees as well.
A tool that is out by a fixed amount can be corrected. This one gives different answers to the same question, and a tradesman working on aluminium openings found the variation ran from an eighth to half an inch.

This is what makes this product unusual among the ones we reject, and it is worth taking the two findings separately.
The distance readings are inconsistent. One owner who works on aluminium openings reported that measurements are not consistent, sometimes an eighth of an inch off and sometimes up to half an inch, and said plainly that this is too much for their work. Two other buyers found that review helpful. A second owner was blunter, reporting readings off by three quarters of an inch to a full inch across a sixty inch space, and advising people to save themselves the headache and use a tape measure.
The angle sensor is also wrong. A third owner did something almost nobody does: they checked the tool's angle readings against a speed square, which is a physical reference you can trust. The angles were off by a few degrees. Their conclusion was that anyone doing professional level work should pass on it.
On a laser measure the inclinometer is not a bonus feature, it is what makes indirect height, roof pitch and Pythagoras calculations possible. Every one of those is trigonometry, and an angle that is a few degrees out propagates through the calculation.
We worked the numbers on our accuracy guide for a related case: on a 50 ft shot, an angle error of just two tenths of a degree moves a calculated height by about 1.6 inches. A few whole degrees is a different order of magnitude entirely. If you bought this for indirect height work, the answers it gives you are not close.
We recommend a Bosch on this site where a careful owner bought three units and found all three reading about a tenth of an inch out. We recommend it because that error was the same every time and at every distance, which means you measure it once and allow for it forever.
What the aluminium fabricator describes here is different. An eighth of an inch on one measurement and half an inch on the next cannot be corrected, because there is no single number to correct by. Every reading would need verifying against a tape, and at that point the tape is doing the work.
That is the line we draw, and it is why this page reads differently from our review of a tool with a loose but predictable tolerance.
One owner described it simply as too complicated, which is a recurring theme on feature dense budget units and is a real cost if you use a tool occasionally.
Another titled their review Expensive Paperweight, reporting that it worked initially and then stopped entirely three or four months in, and that they had spent time hoping to get it going again before accepting it was finished.
This holds 4.5 across 129 ratings, so most owners are evidently satisfied, and we have no way to tell whether the accounts above describe a bad batch or a design problem.
What we can say is that the negative reports here are unusually specific and come from people doing measurable work: an aluminium fabricator, and someone who verified the angles against a speed square. Those are the reports we weight most heavily, because they contain numbers rather than impressions.
With only 129 ratings there is also not enough counterweight to be confident the problem is rare.
Run two checks rather than one, because this product has been reported failing both.
For distance, rest it on something solid and measure the same point four times. Identical readings mean the tool repeats. Different readings mean it does not, and no calibration will fix that.
For angles, sit it on a surface you know is level and see whether it agrees, then check a known angle against a speed square or a digital level. Both checks are covered here.
