An owner put this on a tripod, aimed it at a single fixed point about five metres away, and measured three times. They got three different readings, and all three fell outside the advertised tolerance. Nothing moved between the measurements except the tool's mind.
The tripod test is the cleanest evidence we have found against any product on this site, because it removes the user entirely. If a tool cannot give the same answer twice from a fixed mount, the number on the screen carries no information.

One owner ran the single most useful experiment anyone can run on a measuring tool, and it is worth explaining why it matters so much.
They mounted the unit on a stable surface or tripod so that it could not move, aimed at the same point at roughly five metres, and took three measurements. They got three different numbers, and every one of them fell outside the advertised 1.5 mm accuracy. They added that at longer distances the accuracy dropped significantly.
What makes this decisive is that it removes every variable we normally have to allow for. There is no hand shake, no question about which end the tool measures from, no doubt about whether the operator held it square. The tool is bolted down and the target has not moved. Any variation in the reading is the instrument.
These are two different properties and people conflate them. Accuracy is whether the number is correct. Repeatability is whether you get the same number twice.
A tool that is repeatable but inaccurate is fixable: measure a known length once, note the offset, apply it forever. That is why we still recommend a Bosch where an owner found three units all reading a tenth of an inch out. A tool that is not repeatable cannot be fixed by anything, because there is no consistent error to correct. Test repeatability first, and if it fails, stop there.
Two separate owners address this and their reports agree.
One stated the unit does not perform as advertised, that the maximum distance they reached was eighty feet, and that they returned it.
Another had bought it specifically to measure distances beyond a hundred feet in daylight, found it would not do that, and noted pointedly that it does work at night.
That second report is a neat illustration of something we cover across this site. Rated range assumes a cooperative target in low ambient light, and outdoors in daylight the limiting factor becomes whether you can see where the dot landed rather than whether the sensor can read it. But eighty feet against a five hundred foot claim is a gap of more than six times, which is wider than that explanation covers. The full reasoning is here.
One owner bought two of these for work and reported that sometimes they work and sometimes they do not, with measurements described as very inconsistent. They called it the most inconsistent device they had used for measuring.
Buying two and finding both intermittent is meaningful. It makes a single defective unit a less likely explanation than a product that behaves this way.
This holds 4.1 across 100 ratings, so plenty of people are content, and their reasons are consistent.
One praises the size, saying it fits in a pocket and that they value being able to save measurements and refer back to them. Another bought it to replace a Bosch that had broken and considers it just as good with more features for far less money. A third specifically chose it for the larger claimed distance capability over cheaper options, and describes it as feeling high quality with a decent weight.
We would only observe that none of those reports describe checking the tool against anything. That is not a criticism of the reviewers, it is how most people buy tools. It is also why the tripod test above carries more weight than a dozen impressions.
Do the tripod test yourself before you assume the worst, and before you assume the best.
Rest it on something that cannot move, aim at a fixed point, and measure four times. If the numbers are identical, your unit repeats and you can then check it against a tape for accuracy. If they vary, keep it for rough estimating and do not use it for anything that gets cut or ordered. Both checks take five minutes.
