The most valuable review on this listing describes a genuinely rigorous method, and it is worth spelling out because almost nobody does this.
The owner compared this meter head to head against a very expensive professional meter for both accuracy and range. Then, rather than trusting either instrument, they went back and measured each distance painstakingly by hand with a tape measure. They worked out to 110 feet, stopping there because going further by hand became impractical.
Testing a cheap tool against an expensive one only tells you whether they agree. Testing both against a physical tape tells you which one is right. That is the difference between a comparison and a verification, and it is why we weight this account heavily despite the listing having only 85 ratings.
The same owner made a point we have now heard about almost every feature dense budget unit: the meter does so much, and has so many functions behind a limited number of buttons, that working out how to reach them is difficult. What sets this apart is their reason for liking it anyway. It came with a genuinely helpful instruction manual.
The listing states plus or minus 1/8 in accuracy and 1/25 in resolution, and the difference matters more than almost anything else on a spec sheet.
Resolution is the smallest increment the display can show you. Accuracy is how far the number might be from the truth. A tool with 1/25 in resolution and 1/8 in accuracy will happily display a measurement to a twenty fifth of an inch that is actually out by an eighth. The precision on screen is not evidence of precision in the measurement.
We would rather see this stated than hidden, and most listings quote only the flattering figure. But read it correctly: this is an eighth of an inch tool with a display that shows more decimal places than the accuracy justifies.
This unit has a tripod thread, and it is worth calling out because its absence has been a specific complaint elsewhere.
An owner of a 393 ft dual laser unit rated it down purely for lacking a screw mount for a monopod. Their reasoning was sound: on a tool advertising long range, hand shake moves the dot several feet across the target at distance, and a mount is how you deal with it. A long range tool without a thread is asking you to solve a problem it created.
The same logic applies to the five Pythagoras modes here. Indirect height calculations depend on the angle sensor, and an angle taken with a shaking hand is an angle you cannot rely on. Mount it and the whole feature set becomes usable.

For interior work the shorter unit is plenty, since 164 ft covers any room, hallway or open plan. The longer one makes sense if you measure large commercial spaces. Neither will deliver its rated figure outdoors in daylight, for the reason we set out in our indoor against outdoor comparison.
One describes it as a pretty solid device with the best feature set of any they have seen, which given the mode count is a fair claim at this price.
Another simply says it delivers on its promise. A third bought it as a gift and reports it being well received.
The evidence base is thin at 85 ratings and we would not pretend otherwise. What raises our confidence above the usual level for a number that small is that the most detailed review is also the most methodical one.
Anyone who wants an angle sensor, indirect height modes and a tripod thread without paying professional prices, and who is measuring to estimate rather than to cut.
Anyone doing finish work, on the eighth of an inch accuracy figure regardless of what the display shows. Anyone measuring outdoors in daylight. And anyone who wants a tool that needs no manual, since even the owner who praised the manual found the button layout hard to navigate.
If your work ends in a cut. An eighth of an inch is not enough. The Bosch GLM100-23 holds a sixteenth and shows fractions natively.
If you want the angle sensor with a tighter tolerance. The Klein 200 ft quotes a sixteenth for the first thirty three feet and adds a green beam.
